Here is an article from the LA Times which mentions other women who have become too weak to swallow after being given antipsychotic drugs.

"In March 2007, an unidentified 29-year-old woman was mistakenly given six times the prescribed dose of a potent antipsychotic drug. Even after 15 hours, she was too weak to swallow."

If you check a copy of the Physicians' Desk Reference(which provides information about drugs), you will likely read that neuroleptics(also called antipsychotic drugs) can induce depression. Some antidepressants have the seemingly paradoxical effect of inducing depression as well. The psychiatric drugs likely aggravated Melanie Blocker-Stoke's depression. Furthermore, losing one's freedom(as in psychiatric institutionalization) could also exacerbate, if not cause, "depression". Human unhappiness, like many other conditions, has been pathologized by psychiatry. Just like feeling worried has been pathologized as "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" by psychiatry, feeling sad gets pathologized as "clinical depression".
