Some antidepressants have the seemingly paradoxical effect of inducing depression as well. The psychiatric drugs likely aggravated Melanie Blocker-Stoke's depression. Furthermore, losing one's freedom(as in psychiatric institutionalization) could also exacerbate, if not cause, "depression". Human unhappiness, like many other conditions, has been pathologized by psychiatry. Just like feeling worried has been pathologized as "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" by psychiatry, feeling sad gets pathologized as "clinical depression".
